DO YOU KNOW WHY YOU NEED A SAVIOUR?

Mercy

Updated: Mar 18, 2023

I have often wondered why Jesus said "blessed are the poor in spirit for theirs is the kingdom of heaven" Matthew (5:3).

Does it mean we need to be poor so that worldly riches will not prevent us from entering heaven? Why would God want us to be poor at anything at all? And why does been poor in spirit give us access to the kingdom of heaven?

To be poor in spirit means, to recognise that, because of our sin, we are completely destitute spiritually and there is nothing we can do by ourselves, to be delivered.

It means that no matter how influential, wealthy, good looking and self-righteous we may be, we need to recognise our spiritual poverty before we can come to God in faith to receive the salvation that Jesus offers.

Salvation came to us as a gift through the death of Jesus Christ on the cross of Calvary, which was the full payment for sins penalty. Before we can receive this gift, we need to know that we cannot make ourself worthy of it. Salvation is by grace through faith, not of works (Ephesians 2:8-9).

We must recognise our sinfulness before we can understand our need for a saviour.

Isaiah 64:6 But we are all as an unclean thing, and all our righteousness’s are as filthy rags; and we all do fade as a leaf; and our iniquities, like the wind, have taken us away. So, we must recognise our spiritual worthlessness and the inability of our own works to save us; then ask GOD (YAHUAH) to forgive us of our sins, and declare that we have accepted Jesus Christ as our LORD and SAVIOUR. Only then we can receive salvation and make heaven.

What an amazing love!
